This weekend in Greenwich: Pride turns 10, Dvořák at the Bruce, Art in the Park

Good morning, Greenwich.

The season shifted last week when beach passes got their first real workout. This weekend it shifts again: the Pride flag goes up for the tenth time at Town Hall, Orchestra Lumos brings Dvořák to the Bruce Museum, and Binney Park fills with artists for the annual Art in the Park. Six events across three days, and not a board meeting in the bunch.

Best for families this weekend: Art in the Park in Old Greenwich (free, all day Sunday) and the Police Car Show at Town Hall (free, Saturday morning, food trucks).

Here's what's in this week's Pulse:

  • Friday: Concert on the Lawn benefits the Greenwich Scholarship Association
  • Saturday: Classic cars at Town Hall, then the 10th annual Pride flag raising
  • Sunday: Art in the Park, Yacht Club open house, Dvořák at the Bruce
  • Plus: North Street bridge closes June 8 for 12 weeks

10th Annual Greenwich Pride Flag Raising

The Pride flag goes up at Town Hall for the tenth consecutive year on Saturday. Former Selectman Drew Marzullo, who first brought the flag raising to Greenwich in 2016 and served as the town's first openly gay Selectman from 2009 to 2017, returns to speak. The ceremony includes remarks from elected officials, religious leaders, and community representatives, followed by ice cream, games, and a DJ on the Town Hall field. Ten years of this tradition, and it has earned its place on the civic calendar.

Dozens of local and emerging artists exhibit and sell original work across the park: oils, acrylics, photography, watercolors, wood carvings, monoprints, glass works, and more. Featured artists this year include Jonathan Spector (surf photographs), Nancy Hamilton (papier mâché), Dennis Stevens (illustrations), Sarah Donovan (monoprints), Madison Fine Arts (glass), and Melissa Abbazia (woodwork), among many others. The kind of afternoon where you walk in to browse and leave carrying something you did not plan to buy.
