This week in Greenwich: the dirt bike ordinance comes to a vote, a Dixieland ferry to Island Beach, and dollar fro-yo on the Avenue

The ordinance that has occupied Cos Cob, Old Greenwich and Armstrong Court all summer gets its second read and its expected vote Thursday morning, and the parking rates go up in the same sitting. Sunday, the Parks and Rec ferry leaves Arch Street with a Dixieland band on board and does not come back for two hours. And a Greenwich state senator is now the Republican nominee for governor, which will make the fall interesting.

Best for families this week: Science Solvers: Build a Dinosaur at the Bruce on Sunday, and the ferry out to Island Beach that afternoon.

America at 250: A Celebration in Art and Your Plate Squared, both running at town venues through the month. Two quietly ambitious local shows timed to the semiquincentennial, and the kind of thing Greenwich mounts well without making a fuss about it. Free, all ages, indoors. Details.

Board of Selectmen, 10:30 AM at Town Hall, 101 Field Point Road, in person and on Zoom. This is the one to watch. The street takeover ordinance gets its second read and an anticipated vote, and it would let officers seize and destroy dirt bikes, ATVs and modified e-bikes ridden recklessly, with fines up to $2,000. Greenwich Police Captain Patrick Smyth has been the department's voice on it. The same agenda carries the parking fee increases and a request to run several Old Greenwich streets one way for the inaugural HSS Greenwich Half Marathon on September 27. Free, public, hybrid. Van Leeuwen puts frozen yogurt on Greenwich Avenue, 375 Greenwich Avenue, with $1 small cups from 2 to 5 PM on launch day. Four flavors to start: tart, matcha, passion fruit and coconut, swirlable, with toppings from pistachio kataifi to Biscoff crumble. A dollar buys you a cup on the Avenue exactly once, so the line is the event. Low cost, all ages, walk up. Details.

Y through the Ages: Timeline Installation at the YMCA of Greenwich, 50 East Putnam Avenue. A walk through installation of the branch's own history, up now. The Y has been on East Putnam long enough that the timeline is really a town timeline. Free, all ages, indoors. Details.

Greenwich's own state senator is the Republican nominee for governor. Ryan Fazio, 36, will face Gov. Ned Lamont in November after Lamont beat State Rep. Josh Elliott of Hamden in Tuesday's Democratic primary, taking nearly two thirds of the vote. In the 4th Congressional District, Republicans chose physician and attorney Dr. Michael Goldstein over Dan Miressi to challenge U.S. Rep. Jim Himes. Commuter parking is going up across the board on Thursday's agenda. West End Avenue permits go from $165 to $185. The Cos Cob, Old Greenwich and Riverside railroad lots, plus Horseneck Lane, Island Beach and the Town Hall garage, go from $456 to $495. Greenwich Plaza, Soundview, Lafayette Place and central Greenwich go from $720 to $795. Byram permits go from $25 to $30. Jazz on the Sound, ferry departing the Arch Street dock at 4 PM and returning at 6. Traditional Dixieland played on the boat out and again on the sand at Island Beach, part of the Parks and Recreation summer concert series. Park pass and ferry charges apply, and the rain date is August 23. The concert is fine; the ferry is the reason to go. All ages, outdoors. Details.

Cinema at the Bruce and the Avon Theatre present Remembering the Family Store, Bruce Museum, 1 Museum Drive, 2 to 4 PM. A documentary on downtown Stamford between roughly 1940 and 1965, told through the families who ran the shops. Greenwich watching a film about Stamford's lost main street is a more interesting afternoon than it sounds, given what has happened to this one. Ticketed, all ages, indoors. Details.

Science Solvers: Build a Dinosaur at the Bruce Museum, 1 Museum Drive. A build it yourself program for kids, and children under 18 get free weekend admission through August 30. Kids welcome, indoors. Details.

Parks and Rec's summer concert series continues Wednesday, August 19 with Billy and the Showmen playing rhythm and blues. Free. Details.

Music on the Great Lawn at the Greenwich Historical Society, Thursday, August 20, 6:30 to 8 PM. Bring a blanket and a picnic. Family friendly. Details.

The inaugural HSS Greenwich Half Marathon runs Sunday, September 27, with a proposed Old Greenwich route along Shore Road, Sound Beach Avenue, Raymond Street, Park Avenue, Lockwood Avenue, Harding Street and Tomac Avenue.
