A farm shoutout, kitchen chaos, and welcome to October 🍂

Hi friend,

It's officially October, and this month arrived the way October always does around here — all at once, no apologies. Here's everything you missed.

🫑 Cook once, eat all winter

A whole harvest of gorgeous green peppers turned into a freezer stash of stuffed peppers — scalable from a quiet dinner for two to a full winter's worth. Even the pepper tops got saved for later (pizza topping, Saturday omelet, your call).

🌿 A proper shoutout: The Gothic Farmstead

I don't recommend places lightly, but this one earned it. A tiny farm stand in Pine City, MN — garlic that's now going in my own garden, the best kombucha I've had in ages, and a genuine horse trailer turned into the cutest little shop you've ever seen. If you're anywhere near Pine City, go find them.

🍲 Coordinated chaos (the real version of homesteading)

One afternoon, six projects, zero regrets: ginger bug soda, eight weeks of sauerkraut finally canned, a chocolate bar experiment that failed spectacularly, garlic sorted for winter, and a $3.99/lb rump roast waiting in the wings. This is what the job actually looks like most days — and my ginger bug still doesn't have a name. I need your help with that one.

🍂 Welcome, October

The newest page in the almanac series — the month that finally commits, garlic going into the ground, the first fire of the season. This one came with its own little illustration too, if you want to see it.

That's the roundup. The jars are labeled, the garlic's nearly in the ground, and the fireplace is just waiting for its moment.

With a grateful heart, Sandy (& the whole crew at Granny Plants)

PS — still cooking up that something special for this community. Getting closer by the week. If you've ever wished you could pull up a chair at my kitchen table... hang tight. 💛
