Ridiculous Opinions #285
Bored!

Where did that week go?
You ever have one of those weeks where you accomplish nine billion things and you’re working extra hard and you’re super-engaged with everything, and then at the end of the week, you look back and think, What did I actually do this week?
That’s me today.

There’s something to be said for being busy. It makes time pass quickly and you feel like you accomplished something when you’re done. But no one much talks about the fact that sometimes we’re so busy with things that mean absolutely nothing and have no impact on anything and how hollow one might feel when all is said and done. I don’t like being busy with nonsense.
Nonsense, as of late, consists of things that are outside of my control, which basically translates to American politics and world politics. I’m not much interested in those things lately, despite their constant pleading for my attention. I’m not much interested in drama at work, because after twenty-seven years of teaching, I’ve come to realize that everything is cyclical and the person whom I consider to be an asshole at work is the same person that I considered to be an asshole at work ten years ago. Same asshole, different physical form.

So, I’ve got to find something else to keep me going, because this “being busy” nonsense is not for me. Thus, as of this Saturday morning, I’m going to enact a change.
I don’t know what that change is. I don’t know where it will take me. I don’t even know if I’m going to follow through on it. All I know is that I’m going to change my attitude. Something cool is on the horizon. I just don’t know what it is. But I’m looking forward to it.
Want a window into my brain? Here’s some tabs I have open at this very moment:
How the Beaver Became the National Symbol of Canada.
A system to organize your life.
How to Tie a Square Knot (I really want to learn to tie knots, which will come in useful in our post-Trump apocalyptic society).
How to Avoid U.S.-based Digital Services (I’m thinking of leaving Gmail entirely and going to Protonmail).
I hate GoPros, but I really want to mess with this lens.
I’m going to try to learn Unreal Engine basics this summer.
Fourteen thousand words on potential benefits of A.I. (Could be bullshit).
My Saturday afternoon project.
TWO new Maurice books coming soon! Enjoy this mini-story…
