Today’s newsletter is a request.
It should come as no surprise that I used to collect comics when I was a little kid. We were not a rich family, but despite that, my saint of a mother used to be me comics off the spinner rack when we would go to convenience stores when I was but a wee lad.
Every convenience store during the late 70s and early 80s had a magazine section, with magazines arranged in neat order along the shelves. At the bottom of the shelf were the kid’s magazines. Behind those were weird, niche magazines for woodworkers, model train enthusiasts, knitters, and other things like that. The second shelf of a magazine rack contained your Newsweeks, Time Magazines, and other “important” magazines, and then…hidden at the top, out of reach of the children…were the adult magazines.
Usually, off to the side was a spinner rack, much like the one pictured below.
