It was May 4, 2012. I was sitting in a theater in China, watching a movie on screen that I never thought I would see, surrounded by almost thirty students that I taught at Shanghai Community International School. The movie was The Avengers and it was the culmination of something that I never thought I’d ever see…six fairly lame characters from the Marvel comics that I used to read as a kid, suddenly on screen together after building a larger story through several origin movies that had taken place previously. I encouraged several of my students to join me in the theater and we all went and had one of the best times I’ve ever had in a movie theater. It’s been ten years since I sat in that theater with those students and walked out as jazzed as I could ever possibly be. I thought, I have now seen my dreams come true!
But it didn’t end there. There were more storytelling heights to hit in the future. The Winter Soldier, Civil War, Black Panther, Thor: Ragnarok, and the best one of them all, Infinity War. That year between Infinity War and Endgame was incredibly exciting and I was looking forward to seeing what was going to happen to end this series.
