Miscellany

Mood at our house right now
Me, staring into the fridge: What am I doing here. Why did I open the fridge?
Luke: Tumor's reached your brain already, has it?
Me: It's just tumors all the way up, I think.

The other day
Me: We should watch The Princess Bride. You need to see it again.
Luke: No thanks, I'd rather not.
Me: Yes, but I have cancer.
Luke: Okay look, you only get three of those!
Me: Three per significant diagnostic event.
Luke: ... Fine. Though that's hardly fair.
Me: Yeah, but everybody will side with me.

Okay, what's going on today. Good news first: the genetic test results came back and I'm apparently negative for all markers they tested for. I don't know all the details but I assume that's just generally a good thing, for assessing future risk and hopefully a bit of reassurance for family as well.

This nasty-ass bug bite nonsense was quite possibly a dramatic psychosomatic response, like my body decided I wasn't taking things seriously enough and was like, let's get some inflammatory action all up in here, and found some random bug bite and decided it was The Enemy. It was gross and itchy as all get-out, and I've got some antibiotics and ice and various anti-inflammatory things to try to keep myself from scratching it. It's significantly better today, and nobody seems to think it'll interfere with surgery, thankfully.

Got blood drawn to check things off the list for IVF, if we go that route. That stick was also more painful than I'm used to, and bruised up a bit. I think I'm on more miscellaneous medicines today than I have ever had going at the same time, and we haven't even started cancer treatment: omeprazole for GERD, triamcinolone for eczema, and now this antibiotic, loratidine, and topical neosporin and more triamcinolone for the dang bug bite.

I got the pre-op rundown for tomorrow: they'll inject the lymph node marker at 12:15, and surgery starts at 2:50, runs for 2 hours and then another 60-90 minutes in recovery. No food after 5 AM, no liquids after 11 AM, chug this carbohydrate drink at 10:45 and make sure to shower and swab myself all over with the antimicrobial wipes tonight.

I need to think of a list of questions for my surgeon. Right now all I have is "So how much does the typical surgery smell? Does boob surgery have a bad stench or is that mainly things like bowel surgeries?"

Anyway.

I expect I'll try sending a follow-up note tomorrow night after they let me out, or perhaps Luke will send something if I'm too doped-up to write cogently.
