Taking Stock

Dear friends and associates,
If you’ve been to our website lately, you’ll have noticed a beautiful new background illustration that represents a view of GLIPH in a future state. The illustration, provided by artist Leo Krukowski, reveals some of the ideals we have invested in the project: the integration of our work into the land, the continuity between the past and the future, and the harmony of aesthetics and substance.
For this vision to become real, we need to work incrementally but with our eyes always trained on that destination. Our flagship program, the Environmental Humanities Summer Intensive, is a step toward that goal, but it represents only a small component of it. Lately, we have found it difficult to balance these different timelines, while maintaining our own careers.
After many discussions, therefore, we have decided to put the Environmental Humanities Summer Intensive program on hold for this year. We will use this time instead to work on network-building, capacity-development, and long-term planning and prioritizing.
We’ll be attending conferences such as the upcoming CHCI Annual Meeting in Berlin, visiting kindred projects, and working with artists on our vision for the project. We’ll also be pursuing our own academic projects, including our research into the history and theory of educational institutions. And we’ll be developping a sustainable and pragmatic plan for making this project a reality in the coming years. We look forward to crossing paths with many of you during this process.
Thank you as always for your support.
Best,
Philippe & Julia
