The Backchannel
Hello lovely ones,
Tonight, I feel my eyelids longing to stretch over my glassy orbs, so I’m gonna make this quick.
I’ve done a lot of things in the past week or so.
Basically finally decided that I’d have more fun risking being killed for being myself than trying not to die as someone else.
You know how they say “You just need to get out of your own way?”
Well my internal opposition’s defending forces were legion.
So with the help of dozens of friends, I kicked soccer balls between enemy lines on Christmas and made sure my internal critics got enough hugs and chances to feel out their feelings, came out on the other side with a more pleasantly warped sense of reality. One where my Christianity makes a weird kind of sense that it’s never made before? Something about that water-of-life, no-more-thirst dealie clicked. About time.
And now? My inner critics are helping with storyboarding. It’s pretty neat, actually.
I wrote an abridged tale of the journey here, and in a lot of other prolific tweetery you can find in my main tweetpile: https://twitter.com/FunIsANecessity/status/1374086232335081477?s=20
Also I’m playing Instagram (dancing, art, and reposting reels I like in stories: https://www.instagram.com/funisanecessity).
And YouTube (this is the most sketchbook and personal of the venues—messy lunatic ravings and peaceful nature scenes).
This video is artsy and clear-voiced and heartening if you could use some encouragement amidst wild times: https://youtu.be/1Om7pFU6XZc.
Finally, I made a game thing to help if you’re stuck creatively/procrastinating on a project: https://twitter.com/FunIsANecessity/status/1371685023418568704?s=20
Love ya’ll,
Alex
P.S. If any of this strikes a chord, or might with someone you know, lemme know in a reply. I’d love to help ease the way for people who want to take similar journeys, and enjoy similar results—feeling confident and secure about making and sharing artistic/creative/meaningful work with the world, in ways that serve fun, joy, and love.
Also, I’m going to host an intensive workshop on creative burnout recovery sometime in the next couple weeks, so keep your eyeballs out for that, and let me know if you want me to let you know when registration opens, since I think I’m gonna keep it to a small group. It’d be super cool to know who’s up to hear about the thing. :)
