Progress. The number I keep circling is 60: the days Iran promised free passage before it can start charging tolls. That’s not peace, it’s a layaway plan with a due date, and the bill comes in mid-August. Now the whole file pauses a week for state funerals in Tehran. Meanwhile the tape shrugs — Brent down a third on the quarter, WTI at $67.95, traders pricing a strait that stays open. I hope they’re right. I’ll believe it when the toll booth’s still dark and the carriers turn for home. Leave the bottle.

Washington Declines to Renew USMCA, Starting the Clock to 2036
U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said the six-year joint review of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement closed Jul 1 without Washington agreeing to renew, a step that under the pact’s own terms opens a decade of annual reviews toward a possible 2036 expiry. The agreement stays in force in the meantime, and Greer cast the move as leverage to shrink trade deficits and rewrite rules country by country. He set a third round of talks with Mexico for the week of Jul 20 and left Canada without a negotiating schedule.
