Day 126. It’s the Fourth here — flags out, grills going, markets closed for the holiday. Tomorrow Tehran begins six days of state funerals for the man killed on day one. Same weekend, opposite rituals, and I won’t pretend the symmetry isn’t heavy. They’re calling Doha ‘positive progress.’ Here’s what stuck with me instead: Iran’s own speaker admits inspectors now reach two sites — not the ones we bombed. A deal you can’t verify isn’t a deal, it’s a press release. Oil keeps sliding, Brent under $71 and the lowest since February, because traders are betting the paper holds. Maybe it does. But on a day about independence, I’d rather trust what I can count than what I’m handed. Bring the flask.
