Day 155. The State Department didn’t issue one regional warning Saturday. It issued ten.
Americans in Bahrain, Israel, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates were told to prepare for canceled flights, temporary airspace closures and other disruptions as tensions with Iran escalate. That’s not social-media speculation. It’s the administration’s own map of the war’s reach.
A warning isn’t a prediction. It’s risk made official. Trump says the United States will hit Iran “very hard” until it can’t take it anymore. His State Department is telling Americans across the region to prepare for the routes out to close. One voice sells the force going out. The other inventories the consequences coming back.
The White House is ordering another round. The State Department is pointing out the exits.
The US-led Board of Peace reached a road map to disarm Hamas and other armed groups within 14 days, Trump announced, and Hamas confirmed it accepted — but only if Israel halts its strikes, lets in more aid, and withdraws its troops. Israel hasn’t formally answered; hours before the announcement an Israeli official called “complete disarmament” a precondition for any pullback. The fight now is over sequence, not principle: each side wants the other to move first, nearly three years after the Oct. 7, 2023 attack that set off the war.
A fragile halt in US and Iranian strikes held into the weekend, but the Strait of Hormuz is still moving a fraction of its usual 100 ships a day, with tankers turned back again this week. Tehran says it isn’t negotiating with Washington.
Crude reversed the post-pause selloff on Friday, with Brent settling up 1.2% at $90.12 and WTI at $84.67 as the Hormuz risk premium held. Both benchmarks gained more than 20% in July.
The S&P 500 rose 0.7% to 7,489.72 on Friday and the Dow booked a fourth straight winning month, powered by Amazon’s post-earnings jump even as Apple fell. The July jobs report lands Aug. 7, with forecasters looking for about 83,000 hires.
Trump’s 10-to-12-day ultimatum for a Russia peace deal, backed by threatened sanctions and secondary tariffs, counts down toward Aug. 8. Kyiv’s clearest gain from last week’s White House visit was US clearance to co-produce Patriot interceptors; Moscow says it has “taken note.”
Seattle comes to Monday’s 3 p.m. trade deadline at 53–55 and still undecided on buying or selling, with veteran starter Luis Castillo reportedly available. The club has said it wants a right-handed bat and a bullpen arm.
The National Weather Service flagged an extremely critical fire-weather setup for eastern Washington this weekend — the state’s first such “Particularly Dangerous Situation” alert — as strong winds and low humidity meet a season that has already burned more than 300,000 acres, the most since 2021.
