Day 97. Yesterday I wrote that Wall Street and the oil market couldn’t both be right. Overnight made the argument for me — Iranian missiles hit Kuwait and Bahrain, Washington answered on Qeshm Island, the biggest exchange since the April ceasefire — and the S&P finally flinched, down three-quarters of a percent while oil pushed toward $96. Trump still promises a deal ‘this weekend.’ Araghchi says there’s been no real progress. The House voted to end the war; the president called the vote meaningless, and on the mechanics he’s probably right, which is the depressing part. Ninety-seven days in, the pattern is almost reliable: the louder the talk of deals, the worse the nights get. I’m still watching the frozen funds, not the podiums. Back tomorrow.
