what is formyths doing

hello! here's what i've been up to:

art ✎

page 1: "you already know how this goes"; the first 3 words over a foggy ocean; the rest of the words following panels descending through the ocean and time including a new star, a rolled up trilobite, and human bones, against a background of bronchi and an arthropod nervous system page 2: "slowly make your way to shore again" by panels of a ritual pot deep underwater and flesh growing back over bones; the nervous system continues through the page around a comet and moving trilobites; the final phrase over a foggy ocean again

first breath

new year new new year's comic. to recreate my experience making this you can spend 100 hours on the wikipedia pages for various cambrian creatures.

an illustration: a large tiger & an older woman carrying herbs & supplies walk away from the edge of a village along a path, the first morning light illuminating the fog behind them.

daybreak

auntie and tiger companion for andy's charmed artbook - you can still get pdf copies here.

a tiger leaps through frame of waves & plum blossoms, neon green sparks flying from its bright orange-red coat

happy tiger year 🐯

a grid of hourly comics, showing everyday activities & a large tiger taking up a third of the squares

also hourly comics day but i ended early for lunar new year

a tree twists up over a blue sky, dream-like landscape, a slice of cake, red candles, and a scissor in its branches. on the ground, a shovel stands over a puddle of blood spilling off screen, and a smoking pistol lies to the side. twisting vines & plants frame 2 men sitting next to each other, looking off into the distant jungle. The title is in twisting orange lettering over the vines.

slowly trying to make some posters as a general easing back into design work project, here's sympathy for lady vengeance (2005, park chan-wook) and tropical malady (2004, apichatpong weerasethakul).

"dreams of meeting over meals, and lifting the spine from a fish" under a sketch of chopsticks deboning a steamed fish; and "dreams of ruined buildings that revealed their past selves" under a sketch of collapsing, overgrown buildings "dreams of self-sacrifice" under a sketch of a person slumped against a tree in a soft landscape; "dreams of changing faces" under a person standing in front of a strange terminal "hard to tell where the dream begins" under a trilobite on a laptop, on a background of opening and closing eyes; "dreams of strange inspirations and stranger sheaths" under prehistoric fish & a glowing sword in a ribcage "dreams of recruiting factions" under a banner with a centipede pattern; "dreams of forgotten valleys" under a niche with an overgrown statue

i've also started a dream journal of sorts since i was doing very little to journal journal about and i've really enjoyed making my little drawings so far, which leads into...

other stuff ✷

"premonition, $1, general support + monthly sketches" "omen, $5, behind the scenes + process posts" "formyths.com/support" over an illustration of a person reaching up to offer something to a strange beast

i've started a patreon! 1$ gets you access to the feed of dream sketches + maybe some other sketchbook stuff / early access posts, and 5$ gets you a monthly development post for my comics or larger projects + maybe some other process. no pressure to subscribe or stay subscribed, i appreciate your support in any form!

(i was planning to mirror the posts on a paid version of this newsletter as an alternative, but haven't gotten around to setting that up yet and hopefully will post again if/when i do)

a doodle of a tiger carrying lots of bags and boxes on its back

also i've moved to nyc! if things have gotten a little sparse this is why, as i'm dealing with all the logistics of that + trying to catch up on projects + looking for a full time job. though also if you know anyone who might need something done in the next few months now is a great time to ask about freelance.

thanks for reading! here's a mush valentine i did to test out some style stuff.
