We said no festival in 2026. And then... 🤭

Why we broke our promise & stilling your workshop hunger (I hope)

Hey there,

I regularly have a hunger for… Taking intensives.

No really.

The other day, I had it again.

So I checked a dramaturgy week in Lisbon. And a dance weekend in Berlin. And mime classes here in Amsterdam. So far: no luck.

But if you are feeling the same. I have great news! 👏 Below are the two 5-day intensives we at Flock Festival are organizing for you. ⤵️

Deep dives into longform improv. (Plus showcase on a big stage. Plus shows every night. Plus dinner. Plus brunch. Plus sunny hangouts. Plus taking the format home. Are you getting hungry yet?)

Also, let me tell you WHY there suddenly is a festival. While we said we wouldn’t.

But you said… 🤭

Wait, didn’t we say there would NOT be a Flock Festival 2026? Yes, you are right!

Instead the plan was a 50-hour improvathon in collaboration with the Pretend Company, run by our UK friends Chris and Liam. It unfortunately didn't come together.

So Gael and Laura did what any reasonable improv couple would do: we decided to throw a festival instead.

Which is why…

Flock Festival is back.

Cozier this time: The Nestling Edition.

The kind of festival where you actually get to talk to everyone. And have more time for dinners, brunches and drinks in the sun. 🥂

We're excited about it, and we think you will be too.

The two 5-day workshops to pick from

Next Stop 400 km

A story driven longform

Come spend a summer week with us, learn a narrative longform format, and take it home with you!

In 5 days, you will play—and learn everything about—this format that tells 1 story of a small community. Next Stop 400 km is the story of a quiet gas station in different eras.

One day you’ll play in broiling hot Nevada in the 40s. Other times it will be an Icelandic gas station in a post-apocalyptic world.

Long-time collaborators Laura and Jochem will work with you on narrative longform skills, such as building a consistent environment, telling one story with a cast of 6, and playing big characters in a narrative (it’s possible!).

You can expect 5 days of bonding with your workshop group, and having a genuinely good time practicing useful skills for narrative longform. At the end, you will perform the format in a group of 6 on the big stage of the Flock Festival.

And here is what we think is the best part… The format is yours to keep: take it home and keep playing it!

This workshop will be taught in turn by Laura Doorneweerd-Perry and Jochem Meijer, and will result in a performance during the Flock Festival 2026 (Friday 26th of June).

The Space Between

A dream-like longform show

Liam and Jenny looking at each other excitedly with a brick background

We often think of our brains as existing in two states: on (awake) and off (asleep), but there is a third state that exists between these two…

A kind of dreamy twilight where the waking world blurs with our subconscious as our brains power down and process everything they’ve taken in. Time expands and contracts, colours shift and change, and patterns are broken.

Taking inspiration from this state, we are going to spend five days exploring what it means to use dream-logic to unlock associative, non-narrative improvisation.

Looking at scenes as vignettes without start or finish, edits which bend and blend with the show around them, and using improv and different media overlayed to create experiences which satisfy audiences and encourage them to activate their imagination, without the need for a story which resolves.

Over the five days we will explore a whole manner of different tools and techniques to create different feelings and experiences in the audience, before putting together a showcase to explore these ideas with an audience.

This workshop will be taught in turn by Liam Webber and Jennifer Jordan, and will result in a performance during the Flock Festival 2026 (Friday 26th of June).

Can’t choose between the two? Want discount?

You want to attend a 5-day workshop at the Flock Festival, but you don’t know which one to pick? You trust us for programming stellar teachers, and want to save a bit of money? You are excited about everything, but can’t choose?

Let us pick your workshop for you with this “Can’t choose 5-day package”, and save 10% on the ticket!

We are very excited to have Laura Doorneweerd-Perry (our founder and legendary teacher) and Jochem Meijer (a staple of the local Amsterdam scene) teach a narrative show, while our two guests Liam Webber (our London-based friend from the Pretend Company coming back after the All-Nighter Improvathon and the Flock Festival 2025) and Jennifer Jordan (the fabulous improviser and teacher present during IMPRO Amsterdam multiple times during the last few years) teach an associative show. So we can only agree with your hesitation!

Book this package, and we will put you in one of these two workshops, both happening from Tuesday 23rd and Saturday 27th of June:

  • Next Stop 400km by Laura Doorneweerd-Perry & Jochem Meijer

  • The Space Between by Liam Webber & Jennifer Jordan

We will let you know shortly before the festival in which workshop you’ll be!

Or join us for 2-day workshops

  • A Company of Many - Theatrical Functions in improv 2-day intensive with Paul

  • Playful Teasing - Provoke to play. Play to discover. 2-day intensive with Carito

  • The can’t choose package for the 2-day intensive with 10% discount (a.k.a. Mystery Workshop)

Come spend Summer in Amsterdam with us!

P.S.

For the super nerds interested in committing for a year (!), Gael opened applications for his year-long masterclass in Unscripted Theatre. It closes May 10.
