Going Quarterly
For a number of reasons, I want to slow things down. Everything is fine. I just want to be able to spend more time on each issue.
Producing a new issue every other month is requiring me to have to move a bit faster than I like. A related factor is that I had planned on being finished with a very large day job project by now, and it just keeps getting prolonged.
(If you recall, this is not a new situation. I realized I was overextending myself a few issues ago. At that time, I adjusted the Editorial Calendar to give myself some more breathing room before publishing day. But that didn’t solve the underlying problem, which is simply that putting out 6 issues a year is a lot of work for a single person.)
In January 2025, we are changing from a bi-monthly schedule to a quarterly schedule, beginning with Issue 13 on January 13. There will be some other minor changes regarding reading periods and deadlines.
Issue 12, which was scheduled to be published on July 13, will now be published on September 13.
The time savings will also allow me to spend more time promoting the journal.
Issue 11 is almost ready! May 13 is just 7 days away.
You may also have noticed that I am now using Buttondown for these announcements. Ghost was expensive and too complicated. The Wordpress Newsletter plugin was less expensive, but it had a negative impact on the website performance, and it was also quite complicated.
I really miss Substack (and Twitter), but I don’t like or trust the owners. Buttondown has a sterling reputation, and it’s got a super simple interface. Best of all (for moi) is that the free version looks sufficient for my needs. I’m feeling pretty good about it.
Thanks for your continuing interest and support,
Eric Jennings
