Welcome to this edition of This Isn’t What I Signed Up For, But…, my latest experiment in writing about things that interest me that sit in that messy intersection of museums, culture, digital technologies, and the larger world. If you’re here, it’s probably because of my long-running blog, Thinking About Museums. This newsletter is meant to be its spiritual successor, and the blog will continue to host occasional editions of this newsletter that seem like they have lasting value.
I was convinced to start this newest writing project because I miss the discipline and connection that blogging provided: writing out half-formed thoughts, publishing them on the Web and having a worldwide community of interesting, interested folks help me puzzle them out and better understand what I could only grasp at (if left to my own devices). That geographically distributed community of interest and practice not only nourished me, but directly led to most, if not all, of my current professional interests, including my book “Designing for Playful Engagement in Museums.” Why don’t you order a copy?!
This newsletter is meant to carry on that tradition and give me a way to do my thinking correctly by writing it down. Hopefully, you’ll also find something that will speak to your particular condition.
