Starting Seeds
On patience.
At first, nothing. Only labels for what might be there someday: Tomatillos, Zinnia, Kale.
Then, from nowhere, the tiniest sprouts. I had to restart the seedlings once already—frizzled under the grow lights. Or was the soil too dry? Sometimes gardening feels a bit like divination, searching for answers in the leaves and dirt.
This time around, I’m being more diligent. I’ve got visions of a future full of vine-ripe vegetables and bouquets; meanwhile, I’m crouched down beside the trays, watering each cell individually, gently, to protect whatever is happening (or not) inside.
