Finding a Lip Balm in the Pocket of a Coat You Haven’t Worn Since Last Winter
On seasons.
The lip balm was cherry-flavored, the slightly annoying kind you have to apply with your fingers, but still—tucked away for so many months, it always feels like finding a little present from a past self, right?

It came along with a crumpled receipt for a bag of Doritos I bought from the 7-11—pregnant, hungry, and craving something bad for me. Now, my baby is dragging himself across the carpet to reach the cat’s tail, but I can remember that day, licking the last bit of stuck-on cheese dust from my fingers and the sick-sweet lozenge smell of lip balm, not yet lost.
Programming note: At some point last week, I realized I messed up my publishing schedule and missed an Enthusiasms, so—oops! Onward we go, though this is the last official missive of 2024. Stay tuned for the 2024 Enthusiasms Wrapped Playlist™ and see you on the other side.
Love you all, and thank you again for another year of reading this.
