2023 in Enthusiasms
If my long-neglected embroidery-in-progress is any indication, it is not always easy to keep up with a creative project. But in 2023, I have come here (mostly) every week to write about regular stuff, and I gotta say—I’m pretty proud of that!
It also means a lot to me that all of you out there read Enthusiasms, and occasionally share it, and more and more people start reading it. Truly! I can’t thank you enough for opening an email from me and supporting this little project.
Enthusiasms will continue to come to you weekly in 2024—but heads up that I will be moving it off of Substack and onto buttondown, which, as far as I can tell, does not, as a matter of policy, platform transphobes and literal Nazis. This doesn't feel like a lot to ask—and yet!
The switch should be relatively seamless for everyone, allegedly. You, in fact, shouldn’t have to do anything at all! I’m planning on sending out one more Enthusiasms from Substack for the year—a playlist of all the songs that have appeared at the end of every review of a regular thing in 2023—and the first edition of Enthusiasms of 2024 will come to you from a less regrettable platform.
Anyway. My resolution is to keep paying attention to regular things and finding the momentous in the seemingly mundane. There will be big things, there will be small things, and I will try to consider them equally. Thank you all again for believing, along with me, that that is a good idea.
