Good morning, Emmett. Here's what happened around town this week.

City & County

The City Council met July 16, and the headline item was a new step toward a proposed memory care facility on Commerce Drive. Council unanimously approved creating a redevelopment (TIF) district tied to a proposed assisted living and memory care project at 887 Commerce Drive — a move the City said is needed before a tax-increment financing plan can be considered later.

On the development front, Council also approved a rezone of a small tract at 33255 Lexington Avenue from residential to commercial to allow expansion next to an existing business.

A few other practical items also moved forward on the consent agenda, including approvals related to the 2026 street overlay program, street preservation work, and a temporary use permit for a local car cruise-in.

Schools

No new school district levy or budget decisions surfaced in a way I could verify this week.

Development

The July 16 City Council agenda included a lot of nuts-and-bolts infrastructure items, including street overlay and street preservation work, plus equipment purchases/leases for the street department.

Community

The Gem County Chamber calendar listed the Emmett Lions Club’s Show and Shine car show on Saturday, July 18 at Emmett City Park (6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.). If you went, I’d love to hear how turnout looked this year.
