Dystopian anthology submissions call!

Seeking short stories for a dystopian anthology by, for, and about disabled and chronically ill people.

Hello, friends!

On January 25th this year I published the first anthology in my project intended to uplift, promote, and support stories by, for, and about disabled and chronically ill people and communities. That anthology is called ‘Artifice & Access: an anthology of disability in fantasy’ and it features 14 stories from 14 authors around the world!

the cover for Artifice & Access. The cover has the title in teal to white medieval fantasy lettering. Above the title is the subtitle "an anthology of disability in fantasy" and a red rose. Beneath it are illustrations from various stories including a large snake with a person standing on its head, a person in a wheelchair, and a person with a prosthetic leg, as well as smaller illustrations like a sword and a mushroom.

It's cosy, magical, and I'm still so blown away by the support people have shown. You can purchase it from most major retailers, and/or order it from your local bookstore.

So, what’s next?

DISABILITY IN DYSTOPIA.

Disabled creatives face many barriers to entry into the publishing world, and our stories are often dismissed, erased, and told by people outside of our community. In an effort to uplift and support creatives who have disabilities and/or chronic illnesses (mental health and neurodivergent inclusive), I am fundraising and investing labour into creating collections of stories that help us feel heard, seen, and show that we need and deserve space in the literary landscape!

a dark red background with faded out flames. White text over the image reads "DISABILITY IN DYSTOPIA". Beneath the text is dark red and purple sillhouettes of disabled figures in different mobility aids such as a wheelchair, calipers, and braces.

Dystopian is a compelling genre that marginalised people are often missing from or are the first to die in. In this anthology, I’d like to showcase the thousands of ways disabled and chronically ill communities band together to do mutual aid, fundraise, create mask blocs, and advocate for safe and equitable access for everyone.

Wordcount limit: 4,000 words

Pay: $100 AUD

Deadline: July 31st, 2025

You can view the complete submissions guide here.

All profits from the sales of these anthologies go directly toward funding the next project that suppports and uplifts disabled and chronically ill writers.

Even if you can’t submit, I’d really appreciate you sharing this post and spreading the word.

Stay safe! 💖
