strategic resilience of the better choices system

a model of strategy that shows top-3 condorcet is effectively impossible to game

in my last post i talked about the system proposed by Better Choices for Democracy. i mentioned there that “strategy is minimal” but in this post i bring receipts. and by receipts, i mean mathematical proofs, simulations, and a (vibe coded) companion tool you can play with to see the proofs visually.

this is definitely a more technical post than my usual. forgive me, i am a mathematician at heart. (back in the day, all my posts were technical)

my model strips everything down to just the outcomes an election could reach, to see what an omniscient, perfectly-coordinated coalition could actually pull off by lying. but i also ran some simulations that show that the manipulations that do exist, in addition to being fairly rare in realistic models, can be detectable or affordable (but not both).

stay bodacious,
