we don’t have to go back. we don’t need something brand new. the solution is absurdly simple: let’s follow the lead of St. Louis and just let people vote for more than one candidate in the primary. no need to change anything else.

most other suggestions either won’t fix the underlying issue of vote splitting, or bloat the ballot beyond usability.

the minimal change is more than good enough.
