Three Weeks, Seven Words & Some Numbers

The email's masthead reads "Drew's Letter" and "peruse Drew's news." The words "news" and "letter" are both orange and placed so that one can read the word "newsletter."

Hey folks,

As you may have heard, my next book A Dark Hole Darkly, is out in three weeks! (August 25th!) It’s a funny mystery and also a very personal exploration of family, fandom, and neurodiversity.

You can find pre-order links for the paperbook or ebook on my website.

Today, I’m happy to preview the table of contents! I love a good table of contents. The Percival Gynt books have chapter/story titles that tease what you’re about to read “Tonight on Percival Gynt!” sort of way.

A Dark Hole Darkly… Um… Well, here’s the table of contents:

A table of contents page, relative minimalist, with sections in lower case followed by page numbers in a bigger font: what was 1 | what is 91 | what should be 189

I know, I know. I’m not known for my minimalism. But, just like those Percival Gynt table of contents pages, something is being teased here.

I’ve sometimes described this novel as “postmodern.” Mostly because I’m insufferably pretentious. But also as a way to subtly prepare people for the fact that… something… happens on page 189.

(Well, technically page 189 just says “what should be” in big letters. So probably I mean something happens on page 190. Or 188?)

Anyway. No. I can’t just write a nice normal mystery novel.

What does any of this mean?

Find out in 21 days.
