I love how Q has this, now lost art of letter writing, with you. What a beautiful way to communicate!
All three of my boys love to write, but usually it is presented electronically. (Even though I have shown them, and made them write, time and time again, how to write an actual letter, and thank-you notes.)
I have been teaching 4th grade for four years now, and I try to sneak in ways to write a letter and thank-you notes. It’s like pulling teeth! They have a hard time indenting paragraphs and capitalizing the first letter of sentences! The four of us fourth-grade teachers make them rewrite papers over and over again until they get it right, and then have to start from scratch when the next paper is written. It makes me come to the conclusion that part of it is laziness. If they are lazy in their writing at school, they will not want to take the time to write a personal letter. However, the handwritten letters that I do receive from students and former students, I keep tucked away in a folder in my desk. These, I will always cherish.
I still remember "Devo" teaching us how to properly type a letter, and how to fold the paper for the two standard sizes of envelopes. It's funny, but that's about all I remember from that class!
I hope Q had a wonderful semester studying in Europe!
