Diverse Tech Geek 2023 year in review
It’s time for my 2023 year in review for Diverse Tech Geek. Below is a look at the top five posts on Diverse Tech Geek and Diverse Media Notes.
I note this year’s information is taken from data only going back to early April, per some backend switching around at the time. Still, I think it’s pretty representative of what’s popular on the site.
The top 5 Diverse Media Notes posts for 2023
Cartoons that should’ve entered public domain in 2023 (but didn’t)
Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, and Disney Channel ratings down again in 2022
RIP Teletoon: Cartoon Network to replace longtime Canadian cable network
As usual, the most popular media post, and site post overall, for 2023 is the first post of the year: my annual look at cartoons that should’ve entered public domain, but didn’t thanks to retroactive copyright extensions.
#2 and #5 point to the “diverse” side of the blog, as I look at same-sex couples in cartoons.
#3 is a sign of how much streaming is undermining traditional cable TV subscriptions.
#4 is aimed at Canadians: Canada’s longtime Cartoon Network analogue, Teletoon, shut down this spring.

2022 US home video sales: streaming still dominates, digital sales also up
Blog status update (February 2023): Site traffic post-Twitter is… the same?
A look at streaming services’ profile avatars (2023 edition)
The most popular tech post for 2023 is my look at home video sales. Which basically consists of A) how much streaming dominates everything and B) the continued decline in physical media sales.
Blogging is covered by #2 and #3. As an update, I’m still not missing Twitter, or “X” as it’s now stupidly called. As I wrote in February, no longer using Twitter doesn't seem to have changed traffic to the site.
#4 is a look at a possible Twitter/X replacement, Bluesky.
#5 is a look at streaming service avatars, something that’s stayed steady even with the rapid changes in pricing/content streaming’s seen this year.
2023 site highlights
2023 saw a few minor changes to the site:
I relaunched a Facebook page, mostly to have a presence on at least one mainstream social network (despite using Mastodon and Bluesky more).
I also switched the site back to WordPress from ClassicPress.
I've shuttered my Patreon page, in favor of just using Ko-fi.
Once again, thanks to all of you for supporting my site!
