Blog status update (October 2023): Switching from Patreon to Ko-fi
Time for another blog status update post.
Paring back on social media (again)
Once again, I’ve pared back a few things online, in the name of hopefully simplifying things. As such, I’ve decided to ditch Pinterest (again), and just stick with the few social networks that I either: actually enjoy using/have followers on; are mainstream; or I have at least some followers on.
Thus, for now, it’s: Facebook (now with two separate pages for Diverse Tech Geek and Diverse Media Notes), Instagram, Mastodon, and Bluesky. While there’s still no clear Twitter replacement, much of the comics/animation crowd I followed on the-site-currently-known-as-X have gone to Bluesky. Meanwhile, much of the tech crowd seem to have gone to Mastodon.
I’ve closed down the Patreon page; will promote my Ko-fi page instead
Another change to announce: I’ve shut down my Patreon page. I’ve had my Patreon page up for the past several years, but I don’t think I had much to show for the effort.
Among my reasons for shutting it down:
My Patreon page was never particularly popular. On top of that, it recently lost some of its subscribers, leaving only a few patrons left.
Since I’m just a blogger, I don’t have anything special to offer in terms of rewards, tiers, etc.
I already also have a Ko-fi page, which unlike Patreon lacks some of its fees, and allows one-time donations as an option. My Ko-fi page also already replicated most of my Patreon page’s features/posts.
Ditching Patreon also means less work (one less non-blog site to maintain).
Patreon’s made a few questionable changes to its site recently.
I’ll continue posting new blog posts early for my remaining Patreon supporters until the end of the month, after which I’ll shut the page down. I’ve already blocked new subscribers and turned off billing for the remaining subscribers.
Of course, I’ll promote my Ko-fi page both as a replacement and as a means for those that wish to support me financially. Thank you!
