Notes on the tiny moments that turn out to be the whole story
Hi everyone!
Yes — I’m officially launching a newsletter.
It’s a place where I will share short reflections drawn from my coaching, like the small moments people tend to dismiss, minimize or move past too quickly, even though they are the very things that shape our sense of self.
The moments like:
When you’re nine months postpartum and your mother-in-law casually asks what you plan to do all day now that Juliet is in daycare.
Or when you sign up for your favorite 7am workout class, only to get a 5:45am email from your boss saying a deliverable is suddenly urgent — and you cancel. Again.
Or when you keep snapping at your partner, not because anything is wrong between you, but because you are completely out of reserves and don’t know how to say that out loud.
These are the situations that get brushed off as “nothing,” when, in fact, they are shaping our narratives, our relationships, and the decisions we make next. Or not make at all.
That’s why I’m writing this. And honestly, why I do this work at all.
My hope is that when you read this, you feel seen and understood — but that’s just table stakes. Going a layer deeper, I hope to help you examine what’s actually happening beneath the surface so you can experiment with new ways of thinking, responding, and choosing.
(Additionally, there is a strong likelihood that I’ll mention my deep devotion to Werther’s butterscotch candies and/or share a genuinely excellent salad recipe. For those of you who don’t know me well: Werther’s, salad, and my children are my lifeblood. In that order, depending on the day.)
Practically speaking, this newsletter will also be the place where I share what I’m offering — 1:1 coaching, group work, and consulting/facilitation — and the thinking behind it.
I’ll be writing every other week. If this sounds like your kind of reading, I’m really glad you’re here. And if it’s not, unsubscribe.
Before I go, I just want to say thank you. This past year has been a big professional transition for me, and the trust, encouragement, and support I’ve received has mattered more than I can easily put into words.
Warmly,
Allyson
