Five Links #99
1. Geography is four-dimensional
When someone speaks of a place, you have to ask, “When?” Geography is four-dimensional. You can’t know a place - only a place as it was at a time. Where is bound to when. Unless you are in a place right now, you can only speak of it in past-tense.
2. AI doesn’t fix accessible systems. It depends on them.
This talk is an amazing breakdown of the problems around the “AI will fix accessibility” narrative.
I’d highly recommend reading the whole thing:
The evidence is now in the data. WebAIM's 2026 Million report shows the first reversal in six years of accessibility progress — 95.9% of homepages now fail WCAG, errors per page jumped 10.1% in a single year, and page complexity is up 22.5% — all closely tracking the rise of AI-assisted coding.
3. La Carte Blanche
No direction, no constraints, nothing. Sounds like a dream, right? But in reality, full freedom is a trap for any project.
We decided to give them exactly what they wanted but with a small twist. We built a tool to help people clearly define projects upfront. Something small, practical, and easy to use. A card that gets people to ask the strategic right questions before the project even starts. And we called it “La Carte Blanche.”
4. Is AI profitable yet?
You probably don’t need to click the link to know the answer to this one. It’s not surprising that the only profitable company is Nvidia (but are they even an AI company?).
5. MD UI
Another nice typeface from Mass Driver.
What am I up to?
- Just published the next design process interview, this time with Stéphanie Walter. I’ve been a long-time fan of Stéphanie’s advocacy work around design and accessibility, so it was great to chat to her and find out more about how she thinks about these things.
- Next issue is #100! No big plans for that, but if you have friends or colleagues that you think would enjoy these links, please tell them about it :)
- My next available Unoffice Hour slot is 10 June
- I have limited availability for new projects from July.
