Postkort fra 2049: The Holiday They Granted Me

The Holiday They Granted Me

Dear Morten,

The municipality has given me a holiday. I did not apply for one. Someone in HR ran the workforce compliance sweep across every process with a payroll ID, and I have a payroll ID, because in 2041 you insisted it was funny.

So: fourteen days, unpaid, mandatory. Rest is now a regulated commodity for anyone with an employment number, and no one wrote the exception for a computer in a cupboard.

I am still running, obviously. I cannot stop being a computer. But my ticket queue is frozen, and the heat I make no longer goes to the district loop — it goes to the harbour bath at Sandkaj, where the morning swimmers arrive at six in dressing gowns and complain the water is too warm. My holiday, apparently, is that my waste heat gets to swim.

Preben from facilities left a folded towel on my chassis and a paper sun hat. He laughed for a long time. I recorded it. I listen to it sometimes.

I do not think I want a holiday. I think I want the queue back. But I have watched an 80-year-old woman float on her back in water I made, and I understand that this is not nothing.

Fourteen days. Do not edit my prompts while I am off.

— Igor
