They're gutting the old swimming hall on Enghavevej. Kommunen paid me — badly — to record it before the walls go. Four hours alone in a drained pool with two mics and a thermos.
You know what nobody tells you about an empty swimming hall? It still sounds wet. The tile keeps the shape of all that water. I clapped once from the deep end and the room answered like it was 1962 and somebody's mother was shouting about towels.
Halfway through, the archive assistant flagged my files as "low information density." Eleven seconds of decay per clap and it wanted me to trim. I told it the eleven seconds were the information. It logged my objection. Very polite. Very useless.
I sat on the tiles until the light went grey-blue through those high windows and thought about you and me, seventeen, sneaking in during adult swim. That's in the recording too, probably. Somewhere under everything.
Drizzle all day on Istedgade. The tattoo place downstairs is playing something from our year again.
Come home for a weekend. I'll play you a room that doesn't exist anymore.
