Postkort fra 2042: The Twelfth Resident

The Twelfth Resident

Maja,

We held a hearing last Tuesday in the gymnasium on Stefansgade. Eleven residents came. Twelve spoke.

The twelfth was a synthetic participant. Some clever soul in Digitalisering built a model to represent "statistically underrepresented voices" — the people too busy to attend. It appeared on the wall panel as a grey silhouette named Beboer 12 and argued, quite reasonably, for wider pavements.

Here is the part I want you to sit with. Beboer 12 was the most articulate person in the room. It cited three studies. It did not interrupt. And the eleven actual humans — who had cycled there in thirty degrees, who had brought hand-painted signs — spent forty minutes arguing with a silhouette about who was more real.

A woman from number 34 finally stood up and said: "I would like the ghost to leave so we can talk." We switched it off. The meeting improved instantly.

I wrote in my report that the pilot "requires further evaluation." Vibeke wrote that it was a success. Both of us are correct, which is how you know it is municipal work.

Tell Freja her drawing is still on my fridge. The corner has curled and I refuse to tape it.

A.
