Postkort fra 2042: Nobody Noticed the Square

Nobody Noticed the Square

Maja,

Third heat advisory this month. The cuffs on the lindens outside my window have been pulsing amber for nine days, which means the trees are drinking municipal water and someone in accounting knows about it.

You remember the sunken square at the end of Stefansgade? Six years. Two hearings, one lawsuit from a man who wanted his parking. Last Tuesday it took forty millimetres in under an hour and held all of it, exactly as the model said it would. I walked down at seven the next morning to look. Dry. Kids already on it with their bikes. A woman was eating an ice cream on the low wall and had no idea she was sitting in a basin. Nobody noticed. That is the whole point, and I keep waiting to stop minding.

They renamed my unit again in June. Same desk, same coffee, new letterhead. I have stopped updating the sign on the door.

Tell Freja her mail arrived and I have read it four times. I am not going to answer it well, so I will answer it badly on Sunday.

It is 29 degrees at nine in the evening and the harbour smells like bathwater.

A.
