Post-DOOM
30 July 2026
Hello friends!
My skin is still aglisten and my heart aglow from the tremendous digital dance party that was CyberDOOM last Saturday. The team created an incredible and faithful rendition of Doom levels, including locked doors that opened into new passages with each act and the DJ’s themselves tranforming into their doom alter-egos halfway through their sets. It was somehow simple, yet overpowering, like the hum of a power generator. The dance floor was filled with dayglo doof dancers alongside demons, imps, spectres, skeletons, lost souls, barons of hell, cacodemons, and hellspawns. It was a packed but friendly club listening to incredible sets from Destroy with Science, DEATHTRIPPA and 75 Arrowheads. It was also our biggest doof yet, with the biggest amount of partyers we’ve had yet, an awesome mix of old friends and new friends from Wellington and the world!

Here are some shots from the Doof for those who missed it, but wanna feel like they were there!
Here’s Destroy with Science at the start of his set. So simple, so fun! Folks already have guns and armour and are trying to jump into the goo vats.

And here is DWS midway through the set, h aving transformed into a cybernetic mastermind and going so hard the decks caught fire.

DEATHTRIPPA had a frenetic all-consuming set that felt like stimulus coming from 8 screens at once but all of them synchronized to the beat.

We had different guns, gear, and goggles to put on throughout the club that let you shoot emojis, move at hyperspeed, or transform your view into FREAK MODE. Here is the scene from the highly toxic reflection pool while 75 Arrowheads played a hypnotic hell beat.

And without goggles, equally strange.

Folks lingered afterwords overladen with gear as original doom music played. It is hard sometimes to really explain what CyberDoof is and I think these pics successfully get us no closer.

If you meant to fill out our survey at the end but forgot, here’s the link (thank you)! Afterwards, the Cyberdoof crew all went and got noodles with the DJ’s. It was a mix of hardcore music and wholesome community that this big blue being just loves.

BOOF’S CORNER
AFTER CYBERDOOM I NEEDED TO COME DOWN. ALL MY RECS ARE CALMING BUT TRUST THAT I CAN STILL GO HARD. YOU GOTTA HAVE BIG, MINDFUL INHALES IF YOU WANNA SCREAM.
“Flowers for Dead Friends”, Junus Orca
Beautiful drifting ambient drone from an incredible local (Ōtautahi) musician. Sounds like listening to the house settling at night, when your house is a spaceship.“COLORATURA”, Ichiko Aobi
I love Ichicko Aobi so much!!! Music for magical forest walks, which I needed after the cyberspectral frenzy of DOOM. This music make me wanna move to a new city with only a suitcase, and the suitcase is actually a record player.“Ne Plus Ultra”, ear
When I was a little doof, my family had a baby blue vacuum cleaner that I considered a friend and imagined it could come alive and we’d go on adventures. This song sounds like Pickle Darling doing a duet with my childhood vacuum cleaner, like Dolly Parton and a beautiful motorised Porter Wagoner.

Gidget’s Updates
Our big news is that you can now save your avatar and name via our accounts, which we talked about last week. Check it out in Planet Doof, and these help set up exciting stuff in the fuuuuture that I can’t talk about because I am in the flurry of code! /ᐠ. .ᐟ\ฅ

Upcoming Doofs
We are having a small break after the big time of CyberDOOM. Keep your eyes on this newsletter for our next big show though!
