Vol 4 (Nov 23, 2025): Old Grief

Some grief threw off my groove this week!

GIF from The Emperor's New Groove where a guard says to a hapless peasant, "I'm sorry, but you've thrown off the emperor's groove."

Introduction

Hey pals… so this one’s a little late, and a lot short. I’ve decided to retire the micro-blogs roundup permanently, and I’m taking a week off from the posts by other people section.

This week, I got walloped by some decade-old grief. If we’re going by the ball-in-a-box analogy, that little ball is tiny by now, so tiny that I didn’t even realize it was still there. But whoops, that ball landed square on the pain button, and that, uh, threw off my groove this week.

A lot of major holidays are coming up; this comes with ample opportunities for joy, yes, but also ample avenues for grief. Now more than ever - please be kind to yourselves and each other!

Long Form Blog Posts

“You Saved Me with Eggs and Beans”

“When I am hurting, I do not need someone to come along and magically remove every woe. I just want some dang black beans, cooked with love. I just want a warm reminder that I’m not alone.”

Pudding, the Main Event

Pudding has, of late, demanded lengthy belly-rub sessions. She doesn’t usually purr audibly (I have to put a hand near her lungs to assess whether she’s pleased with something), but during belly rubs, she loudly purrs, snores, and turns closer for more. I would like to start a cult for her. Who’s in??

That's all for this week! Thank you so much for reading!

I write and publish stuff because I've been opinionated since birth, and I don't like gatekeeping art or information. With that said: if you happen to have the financial resources and the desire to support my writing, you are welcome to make a contribution via Venmo or PayPal (monthly contribution options not via Patreon are forthcoming). Every small bit adds up, helping keep me and Pudding housed and fed!

Additionally, if you know anyone of any age looking for piano or voice lessons, wherever they may live, my studio currently has a great deal of availability. Passing my website along to potential students would be a huge help to me! Thank you!
