New year, new me. Moles, Steam Sale, Ducky postmortem and more!
Hello again! I had a great time over the holidays, and I'm fully recharged and ready to make games again.
Steam Sale
First off, the Steam Sale ends in 5 hours! So if you want to save 50% on Chessplosion on Steam and itch, or save 20% on Ducky's Delivery Service on Steam and itch and Nintendo Switch, there's not much time left to do so.
Moles!
Last year I prototyped an enemy in my new game who pops up out of the ground, throws a projectile, hides, then teleports and does it all again. This week I animated them!
I love how they turned out, but I'm not so much of a fan of their weird slow-moving rocks that go through walls. So I'm going to try drawing a different projectile for them to throw instead, that can move slowly and pass through walls without it looking wrong. Maybe some kind of electrical magical orb. The moles already kind of look like they're summoning spirit bombs, so why not?
Ducky's Delivery Service portmortem
I wrote way too many words about the development of Ducky's Delivery Service: what went right, what went wrong, what I'm not sure about, and some things I could try in the future if I want to be financially sustainable (don't worry, I'm doing fine).

2023 roundup and my goals for 2024
As I was already in the mood to write way too many words, I thought I'd reflect on what I achieved in 2023, how that compared to the goals I set for myself at the start of the year, and what I want to do in 2024. It's not really a set of deadlines for myself, but more of a statement of the direction I want to move in with my games.

Anything else?
I haven't done any more work on porting my engine's online multiplayer code to Nintendo Switch yet, but I'd like to get started on that again soon.
I finally cleared Gun.Smoke, the arcade game that I spent way too much time playing over the last few months. I wrote about it here on cohost, if you want to know more about the game.
And that's about it! I can't wait to get right back to work, and hopefully I'll make a bunch more progress in the next couple of weeks. I'd love to know what you think about the moles, or the direction I'm planning on going with my games in 2024, or anything else. Thanks for reading, and I'll see you next time!
