Ducky's Delivery Service console progress!
This week I've been working on the mysterious console port of Ducky's Delivery Service. For anyone who didn't see last week's newsletter, I finished porting Ducky's Delivery Service to a popular game console that has a handheld mode and a docked mode. Unfortunately I'm not quite ready to publicly announce it yet, but...
The console port was approved for release!
Everything went through fairly smoothly, and the console company approved the version of the game that I sent to them! I was surprised that there weren't any bugs with the game itself, and the only issues I ran into were to do with options menus and the way things were phrased etc.
For example, am I allowed to say that my game is available in both American English and British English if it only has one English language option but it's not using any words that are spelled differently in the US and the UK? That's not something I've had to think about before now, and I guess the rules depend on exactly which company that you're talking to.
Anyway, now that the console version of the game has been approved, I'm working on getting everything else approved so people can buy the game on the console itself. Lots of screenshots, lots of trailers with ESRB logos that are visible for at least 4 seconds, and lots and lots of forms to fill in. So many forms. All I have been doing for the past three days is filling in forms. On the bright side, I'm sure I'll be able to do this faster for future games once I know how all of this works.
Because I've been doing nothing but filling in forms this week, I haven't done anything that I can take a picture or a video of. I'm going to attach a bunch of pictures from old newsletter issues instead, just to break up this giant wall of text:
So when is the console port coming out?
I'm still not 100% certain what the exact release date will be. There are lots of rules about how long you have to wait before the console company will put your game's online store page up, and it might take longer if they have any issues with my screenshots or trailers and want me to redo anything.
It's looking like it's probably going to be either July 27th or August 3rd, one or two weeks after the PC release. Hopefully I'll know for sure by next week!
Why haven't you announced it yet?
I'll be honest. I've been so busy filling in forms and getting the game approved for release that I haven't gotten around to emailing the console company and asking them when I'm allowed to announce the port.
My initial plan was to wait until the online store page went up, but it's looking like that might not happen until just after the game releases on PC. I really don't like the idea of someone rushing out to buy the game on PC because they think it's never coming to their favorite handheld-mode-and-docked-mode console, then finding out about the console port the very next day. So I'm going to start looking into the rules around announcing the game, so I can let people know about it as soon as possible. Hopefully they'll let me say something before the PC release!
The Steam and itch Summer Sales are still on!
There are 7 days left to save 50% on my game Chessplosion on Steam and itch! Go give it a try if it looks like your sort of thing, and thank you for supporting me if you've already got the game.
As for the rest of the Steam sale, I loved Mega Man Zero 2-4 on the Game Boy Advance but I never played Mega Man Zero 1 or the Mega Man ZX games. So I picked up the Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection and I've been giving them a try. Zero 3 is still my favorite of those for now, but it's really interesting to see all of the wild ideas that they tried in Zero 1 and ZX. I hope you've been able to find some fun new games to try too!
Anyway, that's all I've done this week. Next week's newsletter will be the last one before Ducky's Delivery Service releases on PC! I can't believe it's all happening so soon. Have a great week, and I'll be back next Thursday with another update!
