Watch this week

Weekend liquidity is thin. Iran ceasefire is positive but NOT signed — one rejection headline can round-trip BTC back to $76K. Berkshire meeting today is first without Buffett at podium — watch for capital allocation tone shift from Greg Abel that could move equities Monday open.

ETF Flows Spot BTC ETFs: April closed +$2.44B net (best month YTD, top since Oct '25). Apr 27–29 saw 3 straight outflow days totaling ~$500M, then Apr 30 reversed to +$14.76M led by IBIT/FBTC. ETFs hold ~1.32M BTC (~6.3% of supply).

1. Bitcoin & crypto market

BTC at $78,324 — up ~1.7% overnight, holding the bid as Iran ceasefire response carries through the weekend with no rejection headline yet. Daily open near $77,420; reclaim of $78K on weekend volume is constructive but needs follow-through Monday or it's just a mean-revert from Friday's range.

Whale accumulation continues: addresses holding 1,000+ BTC grew by 142 over 6 months to 2,028 total. Exchange BTC supply down 170,000 BTC over same period to 2,693,000 BTC. Coins moving to self-custody at scale — structural support intact even with ETF flows mixed.

Spot BTC ETFs printed +$14.76M Apr 30 — first inflow after 3 straight days of outflows totaling ~$500M Apr 27–29. April still closed +$2.44B net (best month YTD). IBIT and FBTC led the reversal. Pivot point: does this stick or fade?

April 2026 marked the worst month on record for crypto security breaches — nearly 30 hacking incidents. Permissionless DeFi paying its tax again. Watch for renewed regulatory pressure narrative if May extends the trend.

2. Stocks

Markets closed today (Saturday). Friday's close: S&P 500 7,230.12 (+0.29%, fresh ATH), Nasdaq 25,114.44 (+0.89% ATH), Dow -152.87 (-0.31%). April was best month for S&P + Nasdaq since 2020.

Apple +3% Friday on Q2 beat — revenue + EPS topped estimates, current quarter outlook better than expected. China demand and iPhone strength drove the print. Mag 7 dispersion narrative resolving — AI capex pushback story is selective, not universal.

Berkshire Hathaway annual meeting today at 2pm ET — first ever without Buffett at the podium. Greg Abel takes the chair, Buffett watches from audience. CNBC livestream from 9:15am ET. Watch for capital allocation tone shift into Monday's open.

Q1 GDP printed 2.0% annualized vs 2.2% expected (slight miss). March PCE 3.5% YoY (highest since spring 2023). Initial jobless claims at 189K — lowest since 1969. Labor market in low-hire/low-fire mode persists.

3. Oil & macro

WTI closed Friday at ~$101.69, trimming weekly gains after Pakistani officials confirmed Iran sent updated peace proposal to U.S. Range this week was $99–$107. Markets closed weekend — Monday opens on whether ceasefire response holds or gets rejected.

March PCE re-accelerated to 3.5% YoY (up from 2.8% Feb) — highest since spring 2023. Core PCE +0.3% MoM. Fed's preferred gauge moving the WRONG way. Markets no longer pricing any 2026 rate cuts — sharp reversal from year-start expectations of two quarter-point cuts.

Fed held at 3.5–3.75% Wednesday with 4 dissents — Powell's final meeting before Vice Chair Jefferson takes over May 15. Hawkish hold given inflation print + oil shock. SF Fed's Daly: oil shock means 'getting inflation down takes longer.'

4. Gold

Gold $4,614/oz — down ~1.0% as Iran ceasefire response continues to drain the geopolitical risk premium. Pulled back further from this week's $4,650 resistance test. First sustained cooldown after a parabolic April rally.

Levels: $4,580 immediate support, then $4,500. Resistance unchanged at $4,650 — clean break opens $4,750. This week's pullback is healthy after the run; structural uptrend intact above $4,500.

Setup intact: real yields fading, inflation sticky at 3.5% PCE, Fed handcuffed, geopolitical premium oscillating. Trade only fully breaks on confirmed Hormuz de-escalation + dovish Fed pivot — neither is locked in yet.

5. Altcoins & memecoins

ETH $2,295 (+0.4%), SOL $83.74 (+0.3%) — both grinding sideways with BTC. ETH still 53% below 2025 peak. SOL closed April red but only by <1% — 7-month monthly green streak finally broke. Range-bound until BTC picks a side.

MegaETH ($MEGA) holding post-launch — listed Coinbase/Upbit/Bithumb/KuCoin/Huobi at $1.7B FDV. 50% of 8,360 airdrop wallets still holding, 40% sold, 10% partial. KPI-gated tokenomics with 53.3% locked behind milestones — clean structure, watch follow-through volume.

Tokenized RWAs hit $19.3B in Q1 2026 — more than tripled since 2025. Fastest-growing crypto vertical not getting the price action attention it deserves. ONDO, MKR, COMP setups improving on the structural bid.

Heavy unlock cluster ahead: SUI, OP, TREE just hit; SXT May 8 (~23% supply!), APT May 12 ($102M), STRK May 15 ($145M), PYTH May 19-20 (21.3% supply). Duck these names or accept dilution — wait for setups to come to you.

6. The big picture today

Saturday is positioning day. BTC carrying Friday's bid, stocks/oil shut. Iran ceasefire response is the only live macro lever — if Trump signals acceptance over the weekend, oil opens Monday $98 and BTC pushes $80K. If rejected, full round-trip back to $76K.

Macro frame unchanged: PCE 3.5%, Fed hands tied, Powell exits May 15, Jefferson incoming. Structural ceiling on risk assets is real until inflation cools — BTC's bid this week is positioning relief, not regime change.

BTC technicals: $76.5K floor must hold. Reclaim $78K → $80K is the bull case. Lose $76K and $74K → $72K opens fast. Bias: trade the range with tight stops, don't chase either side until $80K reclaim or $72K flush.

Playbook: take some risk-on into Iran response window, but lighten ahead of Asia open Sunday night in case it round-trips. Long gold + long energy still the macro hedge default. Skip May unlock cluster (SXT, APT, STRK, PYTH) — wait for setups.
