2020 is five years ago

Hi,

Five years isn’t long ago, but 2020 feels like another era.

A new coronavirus was spreading. It reached us in March, just as the World Health Organisation declared a pandemic. When the lockdowns started, we were glad to have moved into a house with a garden the year before.

In Beirut some chemicals exploded; the USA got rid of Donald Trump (or so they thought); Ulay, Christo and John Baldessari died; and if Apple Music is to be believed, I listened a lot to Doves.

Louise Glück won the Nobel Prize in Literature. A line from her poem Nostos, quoted in a newspaper article, stuck with me:

We look at the world once, in childhood.
The rest is memory.

Another virus, of the artistic kind, got a hold of me. Here are some drawings from 2020:

For those curious about materials: I worked with Derwent Graphic and Onyx pencils (most of the time starting with H9), and Winsor & Newton 220 g/m² smooth surface paper.

Cheers,

crrmnsrg
