Refocusing
Hi, how are you doing? I hope that you’ve been well!
In case you were wondering, yes, there wasn’t a newsletter issue last week. There was an issue taking up a lot for my time last week. I’ve resolved it now so this shouldn’t be a problem any more. There’ll probably be a blog post detailing what happened in the near future.

Dropping The Variables App
In the last newsletter issue, I mentioned my Linux Templating App that I was working on during my Twitch live streams. Since then, I’ve made some decent progress.
I added the ability to perform near real-time template output previews:
The last feature I was working on was a database. I planned to add this feature to save and load the template data that users will modify over time.
This took longer than I thought it would to figure out. After, I figured out how to add the feature, I decided to put my work on the app aside for at least a year. The whole project was taking way longer than I was satisfied with.
I’m looking forward to adding a SQLite database to the app but now, I’ll be refocusing my attention towards game development in the meantime.
Resuming Game Development Tutorials
The Variables app was originally intended to be a short, fun break from the Unity course I was doing 😂️!
In the current section of the course, I’m working on a quiz game. This section covers a lot of details about how to use the built-in UI tools in Unity like TextMeshPro and the Unity UI Canvas.
I’m almost done with this section too. Only four more lectures to complete! The first lecture of the next section is the halfway point of the course 🥳️!
I’m Writing a Guide For Frustrated Open-Source Contributors
I’m currently in the “Research” phase for this brand new article I’m working on. I’ve been gathering links of different examples of open-source contributions.
Before starting research on for the article, It was pretty surprising to me that some of the most smartest, talented people I know in various communities have told me that they are afraid to contribute to open-source projects. I find that such a shame. I believe that their potential impact would be massively positive!
I also believe that most “bad” contributions are from people who are ignorant to the guidelines of each repository and who do not consider the repository maintainer’s perspective.
I hope to address all of this and more when I eventually publish this article.
Feel free to reach out if you’d like to help out with the article.
