Practice Makes Practice

Feeling Quiet

Dear Reader,

I feel quiet after writing over the weekend about something I never thought I’d write about. You can read that here.

I’ve felt a dark cloud over me this past week. A bit of the news, some good ole depression, and the limbo of self employment making me a bit restless. Or perhaps overly restful. Not quite sure where to reach or for how long. Making lists and not crossing anything off. Staring out the window and thinking about going for a walk but napping instead.

In these times I try to listen in for what my body needs, but my mind is also a trickster — guiding the way when my body should be the one making the decisions.

I do know that I have a handful of creative projects I want to tend to this fall. And I will take my own advice and pick just one to work on.

In my quiet form I don’t have much to write about today, but I do have some updates I’ll share.

My next online class Practice Makes Practice is open for enrollment, a fifteen day journey to focus on one creative project in a group setting. We start Sunday October 11 and meet live for three weeks with two Q and A / Co-Working sessions.

Class is recorded if you can’t make it live and there are scholarships and payment plans.

Today I am putting the finishing touches on the Shadows issue of PROMPTS my analog newsletter. I am not sure if it will continue into the new year or if a different snail mail project will emerge. I have really enjoyed making it every month.

This week I should get the keys to Common Objects, my new shop and studio space in Traverse City, MI. We’re having an opening party on Saturday October 24 from 5-8pm as well as launching our online shop that day. I feel so grateful for Katy who is taking charge getting the space prepped and ready to paint. I can easily freeze up at those parts of the process and she jumps into action.

I’m finding I feel a bit disconnected from writing lately, and I want to return to a container that feels good to me. I look forward to exploring this in class, in slow moments at the shop, and in the creative moments in between work.

I know that not every season is for output or accolades, and sometimes hibernating is just as important. I am trusting this time as the calm before the storm of public space holding, trusting that what is for me will make itself known, and riding the waves of being alive.
