A Change For Monday Monday
Working and Writing

Dear reader,
For the past thirteen years I have been writing a newsletter to you. It has been my favorite thing, my most generous offering, and an entry point for thousands of people to find my work. I’ve been writing it weekly on Mondays since 2017, barely missing a week in all that time.
My art business has changed a lot in the last year with deleting my social media accounts and it has required me to make creative pivots and think of the model of how I make money in new and exciting ways.
As I’m finishing up my MFA in Creative Writing over the next seven weeks I am thinking a lot about living as a working writer and doing what it takes to make money at my craft. Those reflections are making clear that the topography of newsletters has shifted and I plan to shift along with it.
Going forward Monday Monday will be structured as follows :
The first Monday of the month is a free newsletter. The usual essay you’ve come to love, the Paying Attention To section, and up to ten classified ads you can purchase on my website.
The other Mondays of the month will be an essay that is behind the paywall along with the paying attention to section. These essays will be the same as what you’ve been reading all these years, plus more behind the scenes of my business, and my most vulnerable takes on life, love, rural living, queerness, and staying alive. Paid subscribers continue to get access to Cody’s World (← check out this homepage for a taste) which I look forward to dedicating more time and attention to in this new format.
New things for paying subscribers : I may still send the occasional Thursday newsletter and I am excited to experiment with a voice note private podcast series inside of Cody’s World. No editing, just flowing and seeing what wants to be revealed about the creative process. Paying subscribers will start to see more fun experiments and additions to this digital corner of my world.
Upgrade nowTo those of you paid subscribers who loved getting the extra essays a month, I understand this might feel like a downgrade. It is my hope that tending to this space four times a month instead of six or seven will only bring better and more personal essays. I also am leaning into less these days. Less emails in your inbox, more quailty packed in to what you receive. This aligns with my research on attention, practice, and attunement.
While I value the many thousands of readers that subscribe to Monday Monday, I also value my privacy and ability to experiment. That has always felt more possible to me with a smaller audience of paid subscribers. And I want to experiment!
If you aren’t interested in becoming a paid subscriber for $5/mo I hope you’ll stay on to read the newsletter the first Monday of the month. The other issues will be sent to you with a preview which you’re welcome to ignore or follow your intuition and read on.
I know taking on a new recurring charge in your spending plan can be a big decision, even one as small as $5/mo. I also know how valuable this newsletter can be and look forward to seeing how my dedication increases with a smaller audience and growing revenue.
I can’t say how long I plan to do this experiment, testing the waters of writing and gathering thoughts, seeing where it takes us. This is one reason why I don’t offer yearly subscriptions to my newsletter anymore, I enjoy the freedom to shift month to month, so that you can too.
Thank you for being a reader. As always you are welcome to unsubscribe at the bottom of this newsletter if it no longer serves you. And lastly, I invite you to become a paid subscriber so you can keep reading along every week.
Tomorrow is my 38th birthday and I would love nothing more than to see a flood of new people come in to my most intimate and creative corner.
Upgrade nowHere are three issues of Monday Monday that I took the paywall off of so you could read them and get a feel for what happens in these newsletters. Personal essays and behind the scenes of my business.
Paid subscribers are also invited to comment on posts and connect there.
