Help with the Oʻahu flooding relief efforts, more information is below.

‘Ōpua Makua takes the spotlight at Pipeline, the most famous and deadliest surf spot in the world, in use for the logotype, poster, signage and jerseys of the Lexus Pipe Challenger surf contest.

Kelsey Ige designed the key artwork for the contest starting with the poster using ʻŌpua Mauka, which then rolled out to the rest of the campaign assets.

Ige said “I’ve been waiting for the perfect project to use the ʻŌpua typeface. And WSL’s art direction requested to honor the wave, the place and the people, so I knew this was the time. Mahalo CJ Type… I can’t express how much I love this type family!”
Since this typeface collection was designed for Hawai‘i it is extra special to see it used by local designers. And as a surfer I love to see it used for something as iconic as a contest at Pipeline. Mahalo nui to Kelsey Ige, and everyone involved, for choosing the ʻŌpua Typeface Collection.

I’ll be in Berlin for the first half of April, visiting local designers and attending the Fontstand Conference April 10–11 as well as Typostammtisch on April 9th.

If you will be in Berlin at that time, let’s meet up for a drink or a bite to eat! I’ll have some CJ Type merch with me to give away, and I’d be happy to share some pre-release fonts as well.

Finally, as you may know, Oʻahu was impacted by major flooding beginning in March 2026. Many families have been displaced and many are in urgent need of help. If you are able to donate to the relief efforts I recommend giving via Hawaiian Council (fka Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement), which is a wonderful organization, currently matching donations up to $325k, who focuses on helping those most in need.
Have you used a typeface from CJ Type, or have you spot one in-use somewhere? Please let me know, and it could be featured in the CJ Type Gallery.
