Hearing on JFK's $19B redevelopment program

Notably, the Port Authority operates JFK but did not testify.

  • JFK's demand for passenger traffic could exceed its capacity by 3MM passengers annually within the next few years, from 2017 projections. Link
  • Workers are given free parking at JFK, but not subway or AirTrain credits. Link
  • Airport board meetings are not subject to the open meetings law. Link
  • Port Authority pays $183MM annually in rent to NYC, which goes into the city's General Fund. Link

Hearing on serving older adults in NYC, and the Cabinet for Older New Yorkers

  • Older adults are NYC's fastest growing demographic. There's been a 36% growth in the city's 65+ population between 2011 and 2021. Link
  • Local Law 20 of 2023 entitles people aged 60 years or older facing eviction full legal representation at no cost. Link
  • NYC Aging works with the Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) on intergenerational programming. Link
  • The Commissioner of the Department for the Aging shares how the Cabinet for Older New Yorkers works. Link

Hearing on the needs of Cold War-era veterans

  • Should Cold War veterans receive equal benefits to other veterans? Link
