000: it's soon™, you should open this

(original design by Son-La, with some gratuitous animation)

You might be a bit worn out from CTM, Atonal, and Lange Nacht der Museen. You might be expecting more than 3 days’ notice for a school night outing. But if you’re getting this email you probably know that we have something special in stock for you and can nudge some plans around.

The really important bits are that this is on Monday, Sept 1 and you should RSVP. But…

We are extremely excited to present:

Emra Grid

(Opal Tapes/Lime Lodge)

Sean Piñeiro aka Emra Grid (among other aliases) is a dear friend from way, way back and someone that I had hoped to lock down ever since starting this series. Like many of our performers he is a bit of a shape-shifter, with productions ranging from melancholy cinematic drones to hard bangers, with the occasional puppet show mixed in (puppets not guaranteed at this time and I genuinely don’t know what to expect, in a good way)

Sacromonte

(bandcamp, website)

Sean’s fellow traveler Alberto Lucendo, performing as Sacromonte, will bring his deep expertise in production and composition for film. This may be the first Chronostasis to feature non-electronic instruments!

Ian Berman

(website)

Ian is known for sound design for the award-winning Despelote, spatial installations with Holly Herndon, and most importantly putting up with our antics as a true “resident” of Chronostasis home base. He’s prepared a special playlist to start off the evening.

This is all happening on Sept 1 (Monday) at the usual spot 🎯

As always:

  • this is a free show, capacity is limited, RSVP is mandatory

  • light refreshments available on a donation basis

  • please try to arrive early as sound doors will be closed during performances

  • sound by Siltech Sphinx → Ohm Walsh F, prepare to take your shoes off and get comfortable

About last time…

We are really trying to get better at this whole “documentation” thing, though capturing such an intimate experience presents a lot of challenges. Luckily, we do have some captures from 00 for those who couldn’t make it or simply wish to relieve the experience:

Sam Diamond / Open Credit

(bandcamp)

Sam took controls early on and expertly navigated the near-solstice delirium of the opening set (7PM against a 9:15PM sunset)

You’ll have to catch him next time or check out his productions on bandcamp for a proper taste

Vyper b2b Stealthy

(uklon.club)

If it weren’t for the foresight of Char Stiles (below) we wouldn’t have this rare capture of a gentle, almost-ASMR-adjacent set from the firestarting BK/UA/world crew. Audience has been pixelated for privacy (with a little stenographic surprise if you’re into that type of thing)

Char Stiles x c_robo_

(char, c_robo)

We put the livecoders in a box and then didn’t hit record on the 360 cam, oops. If you ever wanted Autechre to play your living room, with demented visuals, this would have been the set for you. Here are some clips

CODA: Air Quality Report

This is an under-discussed topic in nightlife, but venues frequently sacrifice air exchange for reasons of sound isolation, “vibes”, or simple neglect. Without naming names, it’s not uncommon to see 3000ppm+ CO2 figures for the duration of a night, crossing OSHA safe exposure thresholds and contributing to the spread of respiratory infections. We are proud to say that we maintained excellent-to-good (<500ppm) CO2 levels for the majority of the event, with a brief spike to ~2k during the closing set due to noise restrictions. We also ran a high-CFM HEPA/UV filter system throughout the evening, ensuring the safety of our attendees.

P.S. please respond to this email or talk to us IRL if you would like to perform in the future

See you Monday!
