Would you kiss a rat? So goes the flyer taped to my bedroom door. it’s from when we first taught Rats, Pigeons, Cockroaches, back in summer 2025. Now i’ve been experimenting with ways to continue creating spaces within which we relate to our vermin neighbors. Most recently: New Rat City.
Picture this: roughly 100 strangers congregate in Tompkins Square Park, at the advent of a heat wave, mulling around a clearing. Suddenly, I clamber atop a water cooler and promptly start to yell about rats. An hour later, and we’ve witnessed an a capella performance from a rat musical, run around acting like rats, learned a lot of rat facts, and gone out to find rats of our own.
Now we’re approaching another heat wave, so what better time to bring it back? Join me in Tompkins Square Park on Wednesday July 15 at 9:00pm for New Rat City, as we shelter from the swelter by scurrying around the park, looking for rats. Please be on time, as we’ll just be rats for an hour and finish promptly at 10:00pm. Hope to see you soon!

PS: bring rat friends
