arrest the president
The president is a giant pile of shit, and has employed a gang of dogshit lackeys to do his evil, since he gets winded after putting on his hair every morning.
That said, people are still trying to fight. When they aren’t struggling to work and afford to live.
I can afford to live these days, which is fortunate, because I spent the bulk of my best years as a freelancer and my days as a paid corporate hack can’t last forever.
Because of this luck, I am trying to be useful to others. My feelings all year have been: arrest the president, abolish ICE, form a union, take to the streets, help your people, go to the library, get off social media, buy your shit at thrift stores whenever possible, eat dessert, take your meds, and vote only for candidates willing to bring Nuremberg 2.0 for Stephen Miller, Kash Patel, Kristi Noem, Tom Homan, Pete Hegseth, Elon Musk, Robert F. Ratfuck jr, et al.

Summerwork, my sixth novel, comes out from Dutton this June. You can learn more and pre-order it here.
Some people will say it’s a little salacious, but I had a lot of fun writing it. I used the money I earned from it to pay off a bunch of healthcare bills which is highly unsexy and sad, so I’m glad I had a good time making this story.
Andrew Karre, you are one-of-a-kind.

After our dad died in 2024, my sister and I got to thinking about what matters in life and other existential topics. What came from all that grief and reflection was that we should do a podcast about books because that sounded really fun (and also easy).
Only the content generation was easy, however. Learning how to do audio and editing was a steeper learning curve than we expected, but we are getting better every time we record. And we’re having fun. So, thanks, Dad. We all miss you.
What’s Yr Read is now available on Spotify only right now (I know, I know, they are dicks for supporting ICE). I hate Amazon and I can’t figure out how to use Apple products since they destroyed iTunes. Sorry about that except fuck Tim Cook and his dumbass gold statue. If you have better ideas about where to upload our recordings, send me a note.

Here is a list of things I’ve enjoyed in 2025:
Movies: One Battle After Another, Frankenstein, Pan’s Labyrinth, The Devil’s Backbone, Starred Up, Twenty-Eight Years Later, Weapons
TV: Down Cemetery Road, Pluribus, Task, Slow Horses, Get Millie Black, Selling Sunset
Books: I read a lot of mystery series this year because concentrating was hard. The exceptions are below:
Creep: Accusations & Confessions by Myriam Gurba
Shirtless Bearfighter by Jody LeHeup, Sebastian Girner, and Nil Vandrell
What You Are Getting Wrong About Appalachia by Elizabeth Catte
Open Throat by Henry Hoke
That’s all I have for now. Here is my author site if you want to learn more about my writing and work. I hope you are all having fun and finding unique and enjoyable ways to fight fascism.

Hi Carrie, things are fine here. We got a new dog in July. Named him Watson. He's a pit bull, but really sweet.

You are all of the good things and I need this energy right now. Cheers!

It's always nice to see your writing pop up in my inbox. I'm feeling the same way about the mess we're in and I'm trying to do all the things you're doing. My big one right now is helping my library unionize. It's maddening but feels like one small powerful thing to focus on.
