Thank you to everyone who submitted to our sorcery anthology! We were delighted to receive so many fantastical tales from across the North. We can't do what we do without the hard work of writers submitting to us, so we truly appreciate everyone who sent us a story.

We'll now be reading everything that has come through, putting our shortlist together, and making our selections. If you sent us a story, we'll let you know our decision before the end of September.

WRITE Festival

We're delighted that Oaths and Offerings contributors Emma J. Lannie and Mae Tang, and Carnyx Press editor Nathaniel Spain, have been invited to speak at WRITE Festival in South Shields, as part of the Inpress Writing Conference.

We'll be chatting about the experience of being published and working with editors in a panel at 11am on Saturday 5th September. We hope you see you there!

Our next submission window

If you didn't write something in time for the sorcery anthology, or if horror is more your cup of tea, you're in luck! Between October and November we'll be opening submissions for Anthology 3: Cosmic Horror.

Prepare your tales of existential dread in a strange and cold universe. Musings on the stars in derelict ruins. The mind-bending secrets of cults preaching a very different sort of science. The horrors of cursed planets. The inscrutable purposes of cosmic entities.

Other opportunities

• New Edge Sword and Sorcery is open for submissions throughout August.
• New Writing North's anthology Scraps is open to submissions from writers aged 18-30 until the end of the month.
• The London Magazine Short Story Prize is open now until the 18th October.
