Open Studio, auction, ART

Hello Friends,

Despite the physical challenges of pregnancy, I’ve been continuing to churn out work this month! I just completed this year’s self portrait. ART stands for Assisted Reproductive Technology. The painting is a synthesis of my autonomous creative work both as a gestational carrier (leasable medical equipment) and as a painting generator. I was at about 35 weeks (now 37, planning delivery in 2 weeks) and exaggerated the bump a bit but not by much.

Painting of an olive-skinned white woman with short dark hair, heavily pregnant, wearing a stretchy black dress and gray disposable gloves, and seated in an office chair, next to a wooden cart with a paint palette on it, and in front of a drape with a white on black grid.

I also painted an Analog Imagination! I got two final prompts so I still have one to go, but I wanted to use the panel I got for LIC-Artists' 10x10 fundraiser for our art festival next month.

Loosely painted, two green, scientifically inaccurate praying mantises with bandanas on their faces, lit as if by flash at night, entangle forelimbs on a lawn in front of a burning cop car.

I’ll also be opening my studio that weekend again, along with a lot of other great artists in the building and neighborhood, and probably a few group shows. As always I can’t emphasize enough how much seeing paintings in person is a much better way to experience them than digital photos. I’ll be in postpartum recovery so don’t let me get up please

YAS QUEEN is up for only a couple more days so check it out if you can!

I’ll be staying at this studio another year, and if you’re able to support my rent there, please join my Patreon, where you get exclusive process narratives and videos and prints on request. I try to add new work regularly to my shop, but haven’t added Solaroids yet since that might be crowdfunded first. Let me know if there’s something you’d like to see in there… next month.

Bursting,
